Took a day trip up to Cape Leveque today. Cape Leveque is pretty remote and the only access is by a dirt road. The dirt road was badly corrugated so we had 2 hours of being bounced and shaken about. First stop was Beagle Bay Aboriginal community where there’s a church with an alter made entirely of sea shells. It was originally built by German missionaries who weren’t allowed to leave the community during the First World War
After Beagle Bay we went on to Koolajaman where we had lunch and spent about 2 hours swimming on the beach. The beaches were deserted…obviously not many people get up to Cape Leveque,
After a good swim we headed back towards Broome, this time stopping off at Lombardina Aboriginal Community. This was a nice enough place for a break but there was nothing particular to see.

Broome cont…
Didn’t do much today, just went into town. Bought a Australian 3G pre-pay iPad micro-sim at £14 for 3GB of data. This compares with the £7.50 per MB T-Mobile would charge if I was stupid enough to put the UK one in it. Also bought a pair of thongs. I should point out that what the Aussies call thongs is completely different from the UK definition of thongs!
Then headed down to the beach to take a few pics and lazed around for the rest of the day. Heading up to Cape Leveque tomorrow so hoping for some good photography opportunities. I discovered I stupidly forgot to pack the Polarizing filter for my camera so had to buy one. There’s just too much UV bouncing around to take decent beach pictures without one.

Back in Broome
Back in Broome after a year and a bit. Cable beach is just as empty. The ‘break glass in case of emergency’ vinegar is still intact (or it could in theory be a new bottle, the previous bottle of Sarsons having saved someone’s life). The camels are still here and actually looked quite photogenic from a distance reflected in the wet sand at sunset.
